Behind every human effort is a base philosophy that motivates and drives us whether we are aware of it or not or consider ourselves philosophers or not.
'Eat, drink, be merry for tomorrow we'll die' would be the most common philosophy which has it's own, grave consequences. Death puts a time-limit on our mundane existence, therefore we are always under pressure to enjoy as fast and as much as possible because it could be all over any minute and we don't want to miss out.

This ignorantly taught understanding is not the final truth. From the ancient Vedas like the Bhagavad-gita and Shrimad-Bhagavatam we get a very different insight that has stood the test of time unchallenged. Vedic knowledge has no peer anywhere in the world to answer any relevant question scientifically and completely. It was delivered by fully self-realized, enlightened beings that are free from the four defects of conditioned souls which are: 1) born into ignorance 2) endowed with imperfect senses 3) to make mistakes and 4) to exhibit the tendency to cheat.

Perfect knowledge cannot be acquired while being subjected to these common imperfections. Therefore superior knowledge must be accepted from a superior source. It is a fact that all our experiences are a direct manifestation of our knowledge or lack thereof ( ignore-ance ). Anything that effects our intellectual, mental and emotional health will create reactions on the physical plane. Consequently no health issue can be successfully addressed by separating the body from the person inside the body ( soul ). Fortunately scientists have begun to recognize this now.

The most destructive emotions of hate, anger, jealousy, greed and lust are the subtle viruses and parasites that turn our lives into a miserable experience. No surgery or magic drug can remove those, but transcendental knowledge can, providing it is received undistorted from an authorized source.

The Bhagvad-gita teaches us how to perform our unavoidable activities here in this material world of atoms and molecules without receiving a binding reaction ( Karma ). Such activities purify the heart and mind of detrimental desires and emotions and transform them to the opposite state of love, satisfaction, caring and kindness and finally peace of mind. As long as the mind is disturbed by various anxieties and difficult obtainable desires it must by necessity disturb the body to draw our attention to do something about it. Does it makes sense?
